AFRO FUNK
When Tony Allen the famed drummer for Fela Kuti’s band discovered the music of James Brown; Afro- Funk was born. By infusing the propulsive African Rhythms of his native continent and adding the “funk” breaks of American artists he created a hybrid style that influenced everything from the early acid-jazz and rare-groove scene in the UK, to traditional American funk and disco. This new design by 101 Apparel pays homage to Afro- Funk with congas , bongos, shakers, and tambourines encircling the bright and stylish text that reads “Afro- Funk” (Body Music).
