FANIA ALL STARS - LIVE
YANKEE STADIUM

This t-shirt is the original design of the epic Fania All Stars show. The Fania All Stars band made its first appearance at Yankee Stadium in New York on Friday, August 23, 1973. The stars performed before countless fans that had caught the fever and were swooning in the presence of consecrated performers of the genre such as Willie Colón, Johnny Pacheco, Bobby Valentín, Ray Barreto, and Mongo Santamaría. The date, is an historic one for Latin music.

That night, Jerry Masucci, Fania records owner, was the last man laughing as his most bizarre gambit to date became a total success— his Fania All Stars poured 40,000 screaming fans into the Yankee Stadium for an unforgettable night of superb music. If Fania Records’ super-band was already famous at the time, this is the concert that made them a legend. That night, the All Stars were scheduled to play two sets. The second one was never completed, as a bloody conga duel battle between Ray Barretto and Mongo Santamaría prompted the frenzied audience to bypass the security barriers to make their way into the playing field and onto the stage, triggering the concert’s abrupt ending.
